Sucheta Kriplani won the first two elections from here for the Congress, the constituency staying with the party till 1971. In 1977, when it broke off for the first time, it was courtesy A B Vajpayee contesting on the Lok Dal ticket. Vajpayee returned from here in 1980 and in 1984 K C Pant was elected from here on the Congress ticket. Since 1989 BJP president L K Advani has been elected from here, when he started off by defeating Mohini Giri. In 1989 and 1991 his rival has been the former superstar Rajesh Khanna.
