One of the few seats in the country which the Congress has never lost so far. P V Narasimha Rao was elected from here in 1984 and 1989, before he moved on to greener pastures. In 1996, in a low-turnout election, Datta Meghe won the seat for the Congress, defeating the Sena candidate. The former won 37.79 % of the vote, while the latter won 33.09 % of the vote.
