Barring 1977, when the Lok Dal won from here, it has been the Congress all the way. Till 1989, that is. Actually, even in 1984, despite the Rajiv wave, the BJP had served notice here, winning over 40 per cent of the votes. The next time round, its candidate Lokendra Singh defeated the Congress, and it has been saffron here ever since. The last two times it has been R K Kusmaria who has represented this constituency.
