Ram temple construction to start in 2001: VHPThe Vishwa Hindu Parishad today declared it would begin construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya on Ekadesi day in the month of Karthik in 2001. Addressing a press conference in Madras, VHP international secretary general Giriraj Kishore expressed the hope that by then the Supreme Court would give a verdict favourable to the VHP. Even if the verdict went against it, the VHP would go ahead with the construction, he asserted, adding that in such a case, the VHP would mobilise public opinion to get Parliament to enact a law that would remove hindrances and pave the way for construction of the temple. "The dharmacharyas alone can decide about the Ram janambhoomi," Kishore said, adding that it would take at least two years to carve the stones for the temple. UNI
