Lawande passes awaySandesh Prabhudesai in Panaji Vishwanath Lawande, working president of the All India Freedom Fighters Samiti, died Tuesday evening at the Goa Medical College after a brief illness. He was 74. He is survived by wife and a daughter. Lawande started the Azad Gomantak Dal, the armed revolt against Portuguese imperialists in Goa. He was also the founder president of the Goa Freedom Fighters Association. He had recently waged a state-wide struggle against the government move to celebrate the centenary celebration of Vasco da Gama's arrival in India. The agitation was successful and the authorities cancelled the celebration.
