Security beefed up in Ayodhya for Dec 6

E-Mail this report to a friend

The district administration has made strict security arrangements in Ayodhya in view of the programmes to be held on the seventh anniversary of the demolition of the disputed structure on December six. District magistrate Navneet Sehgal said that there was no apprehension of breach of peace but precautionary steps have been taken. He said the Ayodhya area has been divided into three zones and 12 sectors for security purposes and barriers were being put up on all the roads leading to the town.

A control room was being set up at Ayodhya kotwali. Sehgal said peace committees have been established at police post level. He said eleven companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary and two companies of the Rapid Action Force besides additional battalions of the state police were being requisitioned from other districts. Various Hindu and Muslim organisations have announced plans to mark the seventh anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition by holding programmes.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has announced plans to celebrate the day as shaurya diwas (valour day) while the Muslim organisations are observing the anniversary as a yaum-e-gham (day of mourning). However, the main parties to the dispute, Mohammad Hashim Ansari, and president of the Ram Janmbhumi Nyas Ramchandra Paramhans Das do not feel that their differences will come in the way of their personal relations.

The plaintiff in the Babri Masjid case said that despite the crisis he was still among the well-wishers of Ramchandra Paramhans and they both routinely inquire about each other's well being. Paramhans says he still enjoys the love of the Muslims of Ayodhya and has normal relations with the community's elders.
