Clinton to consider Naidu's invitation

United States President Bill Clinton has said he would give "due consideration" to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's invitation to include Hyderabad in the itinerary during his forthcoming visit to India.

According to a media statement from the chief minister's office on Wednesday, Chandrababu Naidu received a letter dated December 3 from Clinton.

The US president was quoted as saying that planning for his "trip to India is in a preliminary stage" and assuring that his staff would give Naidu's invitation "every consideration" as they work with the Indian government in planning his itinerary.

Clinton stated that he would appreciate the chance of seeing for himself Hyderabad's unique synthesis of India's ancient cultural traditions and leading edge technologies. The US president expressed his desire to meet the chief minister whether in Hyderabad or another venue.

Clinton informed Naidu that he had received the invitation sent by the chief minister requesting him to visit Hyderabad during his upcoming visit to India.

The US president told Naidu that the US Ambassador to India, Richard Celeste, shared his admiration for the chief minister's political leadership and commitment to integrating Andhra Pradesh into the global economy.

The US president also stated in the letter that he had heard equally impressive reports on the information technology industry in Hyderabad from the members of the Congressional delegation led by Richard Gephardt.
