International Car Smuggling Ring BustedA P Kamath The police arrested six men and issued arrest warrants for several others on Wednesday morning in towns bordering Toronto, to bust what they said was a car theft ring spread across Canada that was about to expand into kidnapping. The ring also involved operatives across the border in America. The undercover operation, which involved police in at least three Canadian provinces, lasted nearly eight months. The more serious charges are against Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, 43, and Kuljit Dhaliwal, 39, both of Mississauga who have been charged with criminal organization, conspiracy to possess stolen property, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. If convicted each could get about 15 years in a prison. Kalid Bachawi, 30, of Montreal, has been charged with conspiracy to possess stolen property and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Sukhwinder Singh, 30, of Kennedy Road, Brampton, has been charged with conspiracy to possess stolen property and obstruct justice. Ryan David Williams, 29, of Mississauga and Andrew Delona Muir, 31, of Etobicoke are also allegedly members of the gang. They face charges of criminal organization and conspiracy to possess stolen property. |
