ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
Fire cleared with no cutsFire, Deepa Mehta 's controversial film which was pulled out of theatres following protests from the Shiv Sena has been cleared by the Censor Board for Film Certification without any cuts. The Union information and broadcasting ministry had referred the film back to the CBFC following the protests in December last year. Rajya Sabha MP and member of the cast of the film Shabana Azmi said a board member had already informed her about the decision. "It is wonderful to note the maturity shown by the board and the way it had exercised its autonomy. At the same time, it is also a validation of people who led a protest demanding the release of the film," the veteran actress said. This was the second time the film was cleared without cuts.
