52 Samajwadi Party legislators suspended

E-Mail this report to a friend

Fifty-two legislators of the Samajwadi Party, 42 of them from the Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) and 10 from the Vidhan Parishad (legislative council), were suspended for unruly behaviour today.

Presiding officers Surjeet Singh Dung in the Vidhan Sabha and Nityanand Swami in the Vidhan Parishad ordered the suspension following uproarious scenes.

The suspension came after the legislators sought a discussion on alleged fake encounters in the state and the killing of innocent people.

They paid no heed to the chair's appeal to raise the matter at the proper time. Instead, in both houses, they came down into the well, not allowing the proceedings to continue.

Repeated requests from the chair fell on deaf ears and the houses had to be adjourned on more than one occasion.

The issue was raised by Dhani Ram Verma, leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, and Ram Saran Das and others in the Vidhan Parishad.

When they were refused permission to raise the issue, they shouted anti-government slogans till the proceedings were stopped.
