Panel seeks CBI help in Anjana caseThe P K Mishra Commission investigating the Anjana Mishra gang-rape case has requested the Centre to constitute a team of Central Bureau of Investigation officials under the direct supervision of an official in the rank of inspector general of police to investigate certain aspects of the incident. In a recent order, Justice P K Mishra, a sitting judge of the Orissa high court, has observed that the services of the CBI were necessary for investigating the case. The Orissa government had constituted the commission on January 16 in the wake of widespread resentment and protest against the gang-rape of Anjana Mishra, an estranged wife of a senior Indian Foreign Service officer. She had been fighting a legal battle against the former state advocate general Indrajit Ray for attempting to rape her. Meanwhile, Anjana herself has moved the high court urging a CBI inquiry into the incident alleging that she had been raped at the behest of the former advocate general and former chief minister J B Patnaik. The matter is pending before a division bench of the high court. UNI
