SC orders Quattrocchi to appear before Delhi judgeThe Supreme Court today directed Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi to appear before a Delhi special judge in connection with the Bofors gun deal bribery case. A division bench comprising Justice G T Nanavati and Justice S N Phukan also directed Quattrocchi to remain present in India for two weeks to assist in the investigation. The court also directed the CBI not to arrest Quattrocchi either on his arrival in India or during investigation. The directives came after a statement by senior counsel Rajendra Singh that Quattrocchi would have no objection to appear before the special judge and that he would execute a bond in regard to his appearance before the court as and when required. The counsel told the apex court that Quattrocchi would co-operate with the investigating agency during interrogation and "shall remain in India for two weeks thereafter". With the directions, the court disposed of a special leave petition by Quattrocchi challenging a Delhi high court order upholding an arrest warrant issued against him by the special court for allegedly receiving a commission in the Bofors gun deal.
