Vikas Yadav is on the run again

Vikas Yadav, one of the main accused in the Jessica Lal murder case, is on the run again. With the Delhi High Court cancelling his bail, the son of Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav, has gone into hiding. Jessica Lal was shot dead on April 30 at the Tamarind Court restaurant run by noted socialite Bina Ramani.

''We know where he is hiding and this time we are determined to get him. This morning his counsel moved an application before the chief justice of Delhi high court for restoration of the bail but it was marked to Justice Madan B Lokur who once more turned down his plea," Joint Commissioner of Police Amod Kanth said.

Accused of helping Manu Sharma, the main accused in the case, in disposing off the weapon, Yadav had disappeared as the murder hit the headlines across the country.

Yadav, however, denies he helped Manu Sharma escape. He had managed to get an anticipatory bail before making a dramatic appearance before the Joint Commissioner of Police Amod Kanth with a court order in his hand. But now with this court order cancelled, he is on the run once again.

Peeved at his tactics to avoid interrogation, Delhi police had moved the Delhi High Court for cancellation of the bail of four accused including Vikas Yadav. The court upheld the police plea only in Yadav's case.

When asked what would the Delhi police do if Yadav moved the Supreme Court for restoration of his bail, Kanth said they would oppose the bail in the apex court just as they had done in the Delhi high court.

Cancellation of Vikas Yadav's bail came as a surprise to the Delhi police too. Senior officials in fact had given up on interrogating Yadav and had begun preparing the charges-sheet. "We are giving the charge-sheet final touches and hopefully it would be ready sometime next week. But if we do manage to lay our hands on Vikas Yadav we may delay filing of the charge-sheet for a few more weeks," said a senior official of the Delhi police.

Sabrina Lal, sister of Jessica Lal told rediff.com that the family was satisfied with the investigations in the case. "We have no complaints whatsoever," Sabrina said.

Vikas' father D P Yadav, however, alleged that his son had nothing to do with the murder of Jessica Lal and that the Delhi police were implicating his son in a false case. "My son did not know that Manu had murdered someone when he came to our house. This is the only mistake that my son made that he allowed his friend Vikas to stay in the house for a night. Had he known that Manu was a murderer, Vikas would not have allowed him in,'' said senior Yadav.

When asked why his is son absconding if he was innocent, he said any law-abiding citizen would be afraid of the police and the tactics they apply to solve cases.
