BSF camp attacked, DIG among 4 killedMukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar Militants stormed into a Border Security Force camp in the Bandipore area of Baramulla district and sprayed bullets on some inmates, killing four people including Deputy Inspector General of Police S K Chakravarthy on the spot. One sub inspector, one soldier and the wife of a BSF constable were also killed in the attack. Sources said the militants are still holed up in the camp in north Kashmir. They have reportedly taken families of two BSF officers hostage as the security agencies have encircled the camp sealing the escape routes of the militants. The incident occurred a day after Pakistan announced that it would pull out of Kargil by July 16. BSF sources said that a group of militants entered the BSF family quarters early this morning and killed four people. The militants could not be identified. Efforts were on to rescue the hostages. This is the first incident of militants entering a security camp and killing an officer during 10 years of militancy. Meanwhile, sources said two security force jawans -- Lal Bahadur and Subhash -- were killed at Vilgam Kupwara and Karnah last evening. However, it was not clear if the jawans died in firing by the Pakistani troops from across the border or in an attack by militants. In another incident, people at Dangerpora took to the streets after the body of a person allegedly killed in police custody was handed over to his relatives by the police last evening. However, an official spokesman said Hamid was a militant and was killed in an encounter. Additional reportage: UNI
