Army close to capturing Tiger Hills

A decisive battle is on to dislodge Pakistani intruders from strategically important Tiger Hills while Dras sub-sector was under full control of the army, official sources said today.

Bodies of Nazir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Kupwara and Ishtaq Ahmad, a resident of Kishtwar, were brought to Srinagar from Kargil this morning and taken to their native villages. Both had died in Batalik sub-sector while fighting against Pakistani intruders.

Official sources said that after dislodging Pakistani intruders from Dras sub-sector, Indian troops have launched a decisive assault against intruders occupying Tiger Hills.

Sources said army was able to encircle the Tiger Hills from three sides and efforts were on to snap their supply lines. With the help of artillery and mortar fire, supplies to the intruders had come down considerably. The intruders were facing shortage of food and arms and ammunition.

Sources said it was now a matter of hours when our troops would be able to recapture the Tiger Hills.

Sources said fierce fighting was going on in the vicinity of Tiger Hills and troops had inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. Sources said we also suffered some casualties, details of which were awaited.

They said Dras sub-sector was now under full control of the Indian Army And that would make Kargil highway more safe.

Meanwhile, army authorities lifted ban on visiting Kargil and Dras sectors Today after about 20 days.

About 50 journalists representing national, local and international media organisations left for Kargil and Dras this morning.
