Ayodhya initiative welcomed but with a note of caution

E-Mail this report to a friend

The initiative for finding a solution to the Ayodhya issue has been welcomed by the general public although some of those connected with it have objected to the manner of doing it.

Bajrang Dal leader Vinay Katiyar and Mohammad Hashim Ansari, the main party in the Babri Masjid case, had yesterday jointly announced their decision to initiative talks at the local level for finding a solution to the issue.

The families of those Muslims who were killed on December 6,1992, the day of the demolition of the disputed structure, are the most affected by the decision.

Abdullah, who lost his brother and uncle that day said, ''enough is enough. Now a solution to the issue should be found.''

Haji Maqbool, who lost two brothers-in-law in the riots remarked, ''who would not support a solution to the issue but instead of political leaders, Muslim scholars should be included in the talks.''

Counsel for the Nirmohi Akhada, Ranjit Lal Verma was of the view that since the issue was not an ordinary one instead of individuals, organisations should be involved in the talks.

The right parties to be involved in the talks were the Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhada and not Mohammad Hashim or any other private individual, he said.

Mahant Gyandas of Hanuman Garhi said the initiative could easily degenerate into a poll stunt. He announced that after the elections he would convene a meeting of the parties concerned and try to find a solution at his own level.

Haji Mahboob was of the view that finding a solution through dialogue was welcome but the issue of building the temple around the garbhgriha should not be included in the talks. He also maintained that every Muslim wanted the Babri mosque rebuilt at the same site.

Meanwhile, Vinay Katiyar said the dialogue would continue. Appealing to all citizens for support, he said the genuine problems of the Muslims of Ayodhya should be solved on a priority basis.
