Sakhi Gala DetailsThe Sakhi event, 1989-1999: Celebrating Survival, Strength, and Sisterhood will be held on June 5 at Diwan Grill, 148 East 48th Street, Manhattan. Cocktails, 7:30 pm; awards ceremony, 8:15 pm; dinner and dancing, 9 pm. "Our goal is to empower women, particularly survivors of domestic abuse, and to build a violence-free society," a press release from Sakhi says. "In this last decade, we have supported over 2,000 survivors of violence and mobilized our community to take a stand against abuse. Together let us continue building a community of peace." Sakhi for South Asian Women is a non-profit organization. Its services are free and confidential.
