MiG wreckage in Pak territoryThe wreckage of an Indian MiG-27, downed by Pakistani military, lay in pieces on the side of a ridge some 12 kilometres inside Pakistani territory on the Kashmir border. The tail, emblazoned with the tri-coloured Indian flag, was snapped off the aircraft and several pieces of the wreckage could be seen strewn across half a kilometre. India had earlier said one aircraft crashed due to mechanical failure and the second was shot down when it went to help the first. India said both aircraft were inside Indian's Kashmir territory. The Pakistan army took journalists to the site today to prove that the Indian aircraft was shot down over Pakistan territory. The pilot of the destroyed MiG-27 died, said army officials at the site. The wreckage of a second aircraft was several kilometres away, but not shown to journalists because of time constraints, said the Pakistani military commander of the area. However, the pilot was in Pakistani custody and was being treated as a 'prisoner of war,' he said. UNI
