Alert in J&K as yatra resumesA special alert has been sounded all over Jammu and Kashmir and security has been increased after militants gunned down 100 people in the state since Tuesday night, an official spokesman said in Srinagar on Wednesday. A high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar Wednesday afternoon to review the situation, also decided to step up measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and thwart nefarious designs of adversaries to foment sectarian tension within and outside the state, the spokesman said. Analysing the spurt in violence in the wake of the cease-fire announced by the Hizbul Mujahideen and the Centre's peace initiative, the meeting attended by Governor G C Saxena, chief minister Farooq Abdullah and special secretary in Union home ministry T R Kakkar among others, noted that commonality in the incidents indicate involvement of Pakistan-sponsored militant groups dominated by foreign mercenaries. Meanwhile, the Amarnath yatra resumed Wednesday evening with the lifting of curfew in Pahalgam, the base camp of the pilgrimage, near where militants struck. PTI
