Amarnath yatra resumes with tighter securityThe annual Amarnath pilgrimage, which was suspended on Wednesday after the massacre of 27 pilgrims by terrorists, resumed on Friday with tighter security all along the route. The first batch of 2,935 pilgrims left Jammu for Pahalgam (base camp in the pilgrimage) in the wee hours of Friday under heavy security, an official spokesman said. The pilgrims, including 298 women and four children, were travelling on 54 buses, 34 light motor vehicles and one truck. But the curfew clamped in Jammu division after the massacre continued for the third day running. The curfew was imposed for fear of communal clashes. Curfew was relaxed in Udhampur district from 0500 to 1000 IST. There were no reports of violence in the period, the spokesman said. |
