Hizb-trained ISI man held in Delhi with RDXThe Delhi police averted a major terrorist operation planned for Indepedence Day after it arrested a key mercenary of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence having close links with the Hizbul Mujaheedin and seized about ten kgs of RDX stuffed in two Improvised Explosive Devices. Delhi Police Commissioner Ajay Raj Sharma told a crowded press conference Friday afternoon that the ISI agent, Jannat Gul also going by the names Javed, Sherkhan, Toor Ghulkhan and Akbar, was trained by Irfan, a launching commander of the Hizb. Gul was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police Thursday as he was leaving his hotel in Nizamuddin area to plant one of the IEDS in the Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi, close to Red Fort where the main Independence Day function is held on August 15. Sharma said his arrest was the result of the increased vigil in and around the capital in view of the failure of the talks with the Hizb and the declaration of the terrorist outfit that it would increase its activities in Kashmir and other parts of the country. Intellence input had suggested his presence in the capital, he said adding that the possibility of the presence of a few more ISI operatives in the capital could not be ruled out. ''The police are active and on the lookout for any suspicious person or object.'' |
