ISI man held in Calcutta

E-Mail this report to a friend

Golam Mahiuddin Bhat, a Kashmiri militant and an agent of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence, was arrested by jawans of the Border Security Force from Taki in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday.

Official sources said that Bhat, a member of the Jamait-ul-Mujahideen, was arrested when he trying to cross over to Bangladesh.

The jawans also arrested another person who sheltered Bhat in Tiljala.

Earlier this month, police arrested Jamil Akhtar, an ISI agent and a member of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen from a central part of the city.

Jamil had been accused of sheltering six Pakistanis who hijacked the Indian Airlines flight IC-814 from Kathmandu airport last year.

Police suspect that Jamil had direct contact with the ISI headquarters in Karachi. He was also reported to be involved in the recent killing of Amarnath pilgrims at Pahalgam.
