268 crude bombs seized in KanpurSharat Pradhan in Lucknow As many as 268 crude bombs have been seized from different parts of Kanpur during the week-long search operations carried out by the police after the Independence Day blast in Arya Nagar, while yet another blast on Janamashthmi, on Wednesday, left three children injured. According to a senior police spokesman, "58 persons have been arrested in this connection so far, but the brain behind the sudden rise in terrorist activity in this industrial hub of Uttar Pradesh is not among them." "Even though the bombs were crude devices, they were lethal enough to kill one person at least," he said. He did not rule out the involvement of Kashmir militants in both incidents. He described the condition of the injured children as 'totally out of danger'. He did not rule out more such blasts. Wednesday's blast had prompted the local police to sound an alert throughout the city. "We will issue warnings in newspapers as well as through the audio visual media to educate people, children in particular, to avoid contact with unfamiliar objects lying in public places," the spokesman said. Recalling Wednesday's incident, he narrated how it was the children's curiosity to know the contents of an unclaimed bag lying in a public park that led to the blast. "They were playing in the park when one of them noticed a bag. While they were trying to figure out its contents, the bombs exploded," he said.
