E-Mail this report to a friend

Elections to the Dausa Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant on the death of sitting Member of Parliament Rajesh Pilot, and eight assembly constituencies in as many states will be held on September 29, the Election Commission announced on Monday.

The commission also announced that by-elections would be held on September 21 to fill the vacancy caused in the Rajya Sabha following the death of sitting MP from Sikkim K G Bhutia.

Commission secretary K R Prasad said the EC's model code of conduct comes into effect immediately in the districts in which the Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies are located.

The eight assembly constituencies where elections are to be held are Shahar Kotda (Scheduled Caste, Gujarat), Kagwad (Karnataka), Lakhanandon (Scheduled Tribe, Madhya Pradesh), Sahuwadi (Maharashtra), Kaishanmthang (Manipur), Sunam (Punjab), Lunkaransar (Rajasthan) and Karhal (Uttar Pradesh).

Electronic Voting Machines will be used in Dausa and all assembly constituencies except Kaishanmthang.

The commission has also decided that the constituencies where the EVMs are being used, all voters shall carry their voter identity cards while exercising their franchise. For those voters who do not possess identity cards, instructions shall be issued later with regard to identification at the time of polling, the EC said.

The notification would be issued on September four. The last date for filing nominations would be September 11 and the scrutiny of nominations would be completed the next day. The last date for withdrawal would be September 14.

Polling would be held on September 29 and the entire process shall be completed by October five.
