Vajpayee resting at home

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was resting at home Monday, a day after he was forced to cut short his stay at the Bharatiya Janata Party's national convention in Nagpur and return to Delhi for health reasons.

"He's just resting for today. He's not moving around but working from home," said Vajpayee's media advisor H K Dua, who laughed off any suggestion that the prime minister's upcoming visit to the United States might be called off.

Officially, Vajpayee returned from the BJP meeting in the central city of Nagpur because of aggravated pain in his knee joints caused by osteo-arthritis.

Three months ago he was laid down by a throat infection, and speculation over the 73-year-old's health was fuelled by a rather fragile performance at Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

"There's pain there, but nothing that would require hospitalisation. Just rest and some physiotherapy," Dua said.

"It will have no effect at all on the US visit, which will go ahead as scheduled."
