Uma Bharti insists on temple construction

Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Uma Bharti on Friday said the Ram temple should be built at the 'disputed site' in Ayodhya and the entire issue could be sorted out through negotiations with the Muslim community.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament House, she said the issue of land ownership should be resolved through the court.

Defending her presence in Ayodhya on December six, 1992, the day the Babri masjid was demolished, the minister said she had gone there to prevent the demolition of the 'disputed structure'.

The minister said all political parties should be kept out of the Ram temple issue. ''Only religious leaders should sort out the problem,'' she asserted.

Uma Bharti's remarks come close on the heels of the prime minister's comment on Thursday that the 'disputed site' should be used for construction of the Ram temple while providing an alternate site for building the mosque.
