I am not avoiding Liberhans: Bharti

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Union Minister of Sports Uma Bharti said that work prevented her for attending the Liberhans Commission hearing on Tuesday.

"Believe me I was preoccupied with work in Parliament. We thought that a compromise would take place between the National Democratic Alliance and the Opposition, but it did not happen. But I am certainly appearing before the commission on December 19," Bharti told rediff.com during an informal chat.

Bharti refused to comment about pictures of her looking very happy after the demolition of the Babri Masjid that appeared in many newspapers. "The issue is now being debated in Parliament and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will answer the opposition charges," she said.

She also refused to comment on the theory by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudershan that an explosion had caused the demolition of the mosque.
