Experts demolished Babri masjid: Deshpande

Former Rajya Sabha member and Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande, on Tuesday said the demolition of the Babri masjid at Ayodhya was a well planned strategy executed with the help of experts.

Addressing a press conference, Deshpande, who was present on December six, 1992 at Ayodhya, said that as per her observation, the structure was tilting and falling as if some experts were hired for the demolition.

When asked who were the experts, she said she has no knowledge about them.

Deshpande was in limelight recently when Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshan had quoted her as saying that the Babri masjid was demolished due to an explosion.

She said she has been misquoted by Sudarshan regarding the explosion theory as she was present at the site closest to the masjid, and never heard any explosion at that time. She was unnecessarily being dragged into the whole thing, she added.

At the time of the demolition she saw nobody trying to pacify the crowd, she said.

On the contrary, the kar sevaks were being asked to come down from the dome of the masjid so that they would not be hurt when it was brought down, which showed that the demolition was a well-planned strategy, she observed.

She was also being misquoted by a section of the press with a view to shield some of the leaders being accused in the demolition on December six, 1992, she alleged.

A movement will be launched by peace-loving people to see that incident like demolition of the Babri masjid are never repeated, Deshpande said.

"The demolition could not have happened if the peace loving people were well organised in Ayodhya on December six, 1992. We lacked enough volunteers and thus failed to protect the structure," she said.

When asked whether she would file a defamation case against Sudarshan, she said no decision in this regard has been taken yet.
