Bihar keeps eye on criminalsThe Bihar government is keeping a strict vigil on candidates with criminal background in the coming assembly elections. State Home Secretary U N Panjiyar said in Patna on Tuesday that the government had directed all district magistrates and police superintendents concerned to send detailed reports on the activities of such candidates. As all the assembly seats in the state were sensitive, the state government was taking maximum possible measures to maintain law and order during the polling, he stated. The Union government had allotted three times more para-military forces than in the last Lok Sabha poll in the state. However, he did not elaborate on the number of companies of Central forces and the arrangements made to counter militant attacks. The home secretary was confident of keeping violent incidents under check this time as the Central forces had already cordoned off the vulnerable areas well before the polling date. UNI
