US asks India, Pakistan to ease tension

E-Mail this report to a friend

The United States has urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and try to ease tension between them.

The US has urged all parties to exercise restraint and try to ease tension and "we will continue to work on that", State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said when asked to comment on media reports that Pakistan was ready to start another Kargil-type conflict with India.

However, he did not comment on reports that Senator Sam Brownback wanted all sanctions against India to be lifted before Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived in Washington.

He also withheld comment on a letter written by some members of the US Congress to the House Speaker that Vajpayee be invited to address it.
