JK peace committee welcomes Hizbul decisionJammu and Kashmir Peace Committee, Europe, today described the unilateral cease-fire declared by Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit in Kashmir as a "bold, realistic and timely decision." "We have noted with great pleasure that Hizbul Mujahideen has announced unilateral cease-fire for three months. It is a bold, realistic and timely decision taken by them for which the commander of Hizbul Mujahideen deserves our hearty congratulations," M Anwar Khan, chairman of the committee said in a statement in London. "We hope that Hizbul Mujahideen will do its best in establishing and maintaining peace and order in the state so that the long-standing dispute of Kashmir could be resolved through peaceful means in an atmosphere of friendship and harmony," he said. The Pakistan-backed militant outfit, in a surprise move, yesterday announced a three-month-long cease-fire in Jammu and Kashmir and declared its readiness to hold talks with the Union government. According to Abdul Majid Dar, the 'chief commander' of the powerful outfit, the cease-fire will be effective from today. "We are ready for talks with New Delhi to ensure peace in the trouble-torn state," he told a group of reporters in Srinagar but said the outfit had "a right to withdraw it (offer) even after a week."
