Temples ransacked in Sanga Reddy township, city tenseTension gripped Rajampet area in Sanga Reddy town in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday as devotees found three small temples damaged and ransacked. The police said unidentified miscreants entered the temples late on Monday night and ransacked them. The incident came to light in the morning when some people found the two idols damaged and thrown outside the temple precincts. Clothes adorning a deity in one of the temples were found torn and burnt, police said. The District Superintendent of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who along with Sanga Reddy municipal chairman Padma visited the vandalised temples, described the incident as 'mischievous and unfortunate'. He urged the local people to exercise restraint and maintain peace and communal harmony. Scores of people thronged the temple premises and made enquiries. Additional police pickets were posted as a precautionary measure, police said. The ransacking follows a series of attacks on churches and cemeteries at various places in the state during the last two months. Last Sunday, a bomb exploded in a mosque in Guntur. It sparked off arson and violence followed by imposition of curfew in the area. PTI SEE ALSO
