Shastri takes over as UP governor

Vishnu Kant Shastri was on Friday sworn-in as the new governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Justice Shyam Kumar Sen, Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, administered the oath at a simple but impressive ceremony in the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhawan in Lucknow on Friday morning.

Shastri replaces Suraj Bhan, who has been appointed governor of Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Rajnath Singh and his cabinet colleagues, state Bharatiya Janata Party chief Kalraj Misra, judges of the high court, senior bureaucrats and other distinguished citizens were present on the occasion.

Immediately after taking the oath, the new governor inspected a guard of honour on the lawns of the Raj Bhawan.
