PM to head Viswabharati University

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has agreed to become the new chancellor of the Viswabharati University at Shantiniketan.

A message from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to university Vice-Chancellor Dilip Kumar Basu on Monday said Vajpayee has accepted the proposal to become the chancellor of the Viswabharati University.

University authorities had suggested the names of Prime Minister Vajpayee, scientist Abid Hussain and industrialist Ratan Tata to President K R Narayanan.

Narayanan proposed the name of Vajpayee for the post.
