Ceasefire day 3: jawan killed in militant fire

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

On the third day of the Ramzan ceasefire, a Border Security Force jawan was killed and another seriously wounded when militants opened fire on them from close range in the main vegetable market of Barmullah town.

The police said both the jawans were shifted immediately to hospital in a serious condition, where havaldar Bakshi succumbed to his injuries. The other soldier's condition was also stated to be serious.

In another incident, militants opened fire last night on the house of Mohammad Ashraf, the National Conference's block president at Dangarpura village in Door, near the apple town of Sopore in Baramullah district. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The police also recovered an unclaimed body on Thursday afternoon from the Jhelum, near Chechamasheeri in Baramullah district, and have sent it for post-mortem.
