Chhota Rajan set free by Thai court

Alleged gangster Chhota Rajan, who survived a murderous attack by a rival gang on September 15, has been acquitted by a Bangkok court in a case pertaining to providing false information to Thailand's passport authorities on Tuesday morning, Star News reported.

Before being set free, the court imposed a fine on Rajan for the offence regarding his passport. The court said that Rajan is free to go wherever he wishes.

According to the report, it was not clear what Rajan's next move would be. After expressing a desire to come back to India, Rajan, it seems, is likely to opt for a third country, probably a South East Asian one, the report said.

So far, no Indian official has reached Bangkok seeking extradition of Chhota Rajan, it added.

Earlier, Chhota Rajan had appealed to Thailand's prime minister to set him free.

Rajan is expected to go to the passport office later in the day to collect his passport, which had been impounded by authorities.
