Four killed in renewed clashes in Midnapore

At least four people have been reported killed and 20 others injured seriously in fresh clashes between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Trinamul Congress in Midnapore district in West Bengal.

An eight-year old boy, two Trinamul activists and one CPI (M) supporter were killed in clashes in the past two days in Potashpur and Keshpur police station areas, senior police officials said.

At least 500 houses have been looted with the fighting spreading to over 17 villages.

Eastern Frontier Rifles contingents have been deployed in the area. Senior police officials, including the additional superintendent of police, Tamluk, and the additional superintendent of police, Kharagpur have rushed to the spot.

Clashes between the two parties had stopped following a visit by Defence Minister George Fernandes in early September.
