Train services in Bengal disruptedTrain services from Calcutta to north Bengal and neighbouring districts remained completely disrupted for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday with no let-up in the overall flood situation in West Bengal. A spokesman of the Eastern Railway said here that 15 pairs of trains besides seven up trains scheduled to run on Sunday had been cancelled. He said the cancelled trains included Ganadevta Express, Shantiniketan Express, Kanchanjunga Express, Darjeeling Mail, Gour Express and Teesta-Torsa Express. He said shuttle services had been introduced in some areas, adding that two rakes were run between Bolpur and Rampurhat during the day. A train was introduced on the Pakur-Sahibganj and another on the Katwa-Bankapesi narrow gauge sections. He said about 40,000 wagons with nearly 800,000 tonnes of materials had been despatched to different areas for restoration work in the flood-affected areas. About 20,000 flood victims had taken shelters in 12 trains at four different points on the Howrah-Bardhaman chord line resulting in the cancellation of 50 suburban trains daily. UNI EARLIER REPORTS
