Hyderabad Nizam's money in Pak account

An amount of Pound Sterling 24,454,350.18 belonging to erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad's government is lying in a London bank account of a former Pakistan High Commissioner to Britain.

Initially, a sum of Pound Sterling 1,007,940.09 was maintained in an account of National Westminister Bank of London in September 1948 in the name of Nizam's government, Minister of State for Finance Balasaheb Vikhe Patil said in the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

This amount, he said, was transferred into an account in the name of the then High Commissioner of Pakistan on the instructions of the erstwhile Nizam's finance minister. The funds currently amount to Pound Sterling 24,454,350.18.

India has made several attempts with the Pakistan government, late Nizam of Hyderabad and his legal heirs to resolve the issue and the efforts are continuing, he said.
