3 ITBP jawans killed in Anantnag blast

Three members of the paramilitary Indo Tibetan Border Police, including an official, were killed and 15 others were wounded in a massive explosion at Wailoo Kokernag village in southern Anantnag district Tuesday morning.

The incident follows Monday's string of explosions across the Valley, which resulted in serious injuries to 36 army and paramilitary soldiers.

The police said early Tuesday morning that militants attacked ITBP soldiers near Bidyar Kokernag village, resulting in injuries to two members, who had to be shifted to Anantnag.

However on their way to Anantnag, an ITBP vehicle escorting the injured hit a landmine, resulting in on death of three members of the ITBP, including a sub-inspector of the 8th Battalion.

Fifteen persons, including 12 members of the ITBP, were seriously wounded in the explosion.

The injured were rushed to Anantnag hospital.

No one has yet owned responsibility for the attack.

In the saffron rich town of Pampore in south Kashmir, a mine blast early Monday damaged a shop. An ITBP soldier received splinter injuries.

Security in the Valley has been tightened following stepped up militant attacks.
