The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday arrested two terrorists having links with the Pakistani intelligence agency, Inter Services Intelligence, said the Uttar Pradesh Principal Home Secretary Naresh Dayal.
The arrested ISI agents were hatching out a conspiracy to strike at one of the ordnance factories based in Kanpur on Independence day, added Dayal.
Speaking to rediff.com Dayal said, "The timely arrest of the two young men has prevented what could have led into a major catastrophe."
The north Indian industrial hub of Kanpur has five key defence ordnance factories.
The Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar said, "The leads to the arrest of the two terrorists were given by yet another ISI agent, Mumtaz, apprehended by the Delhi police barely three days back."
The arrested young men were identified as Wasif Haider and Zubair, both permanent residents of Kanpur.
Kumar said, "While Haider was engaged as a medical representative with a pharmaceutical company, Zubair was a quack."
He said, "Interrogation of the two revealed that they had undergone military training in ISI-run camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, where they attended a special 40-day training camp."
