Whether he believed in self-assessment, Bhattacharjee quipped, "It is better to keep one's own assessment to oneself."

He admitted that he was yet to achieve 'total success' in bringing about speed in administrative work and changing the mindset of the police force.

Addressing a press conference in Calcutta on the completion of 100 days in office as the head of the sixth Left Front government, Bhattacharjee said that there was some change as far as discipline and bringing about speed in administrative work was concerned.

Bhattacharjee, who had promised to offer a clean and speedy administration after assuming office in May, said that it was difficult to change the mindset of the police force overnight. "That will take time."

Reiterating that West Bengal was still comparatively better than other states in the country as far as law and order was concerned, Bhattacharjee said that he was not complacent about law and order.

He said that the recent abduction of a shoe baron and the way ransom was paid was a matter of concern to his government.
