Pakistani troops fired over 10 mortar bombs and used heavy weapons to target the Galard-Benglard areas close to the border forcing over 2000 people to migrate to safer areas in the Samba sub-sector, official sources in Jammu said.
The migration took place from Benglard, Chakfaquira, Fateh Chowk, Sorhi, Sikri, Gunjgal and Kotrian villages, the sources said.
The last time the area came under Pakistani mortars and heavy weaponry shelling was during the 1971 war and since then the place had not experienced such action, the sources said.
Meanwhile, three army jawans were among four persons injured in Pakistani mortar shelling and firing, which continued for the third day in the Jammu-Poonch sector on Monday, they said.
Heavy Pakistani mortar shelling and small and medium arms firing was reported from most of the areas along the Line of Control (LoC), including in Sabzian, Kerni, Mendhar, Poonch, Ghambir, Laam, Bhawani and Mandi areas of the Jammu-Poonch sectors since Sunday night.
