Hinduja brothers denied permission to go abroad

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Special CBI Judge Ajit Bharihoke on Thursday dismissed the Hinduja brothers' plea that they should be allowed to leave the country.

In his judgment, Bharihoke said, "I have denied them permission to go abroad as the court is not satisfied that they will come back."

Gopichand, Prakashchand and Srichand Hinduja had sought permission to go abroad, stating that they are cooperating fully with the CBI in the Bofors case, since their global business was suffering on account of their continued stay in India.

The Hindujas' legal counsel, comprising Rajinder Singh, Arvind Nigam and Amit Desai, left the court immediately after the ruling, without answering questions from the media.

However, another advocate for the brothers, Ujjawal Rana, said, "They will be moving the high court after seeing the proper order. The judge has upheld the CBI's apprehensions and we feel our clients' global business is suffering because of their continued stay in India. Hence, we have a reason to move the high court."
