Bhim Singh demands Farooq's dismissal

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Jammu and Kashmir Panther Party chief Professor Bhim Singh has asked Jammu and Kashmir Governor Girish Chandra Saxena to dismiss the state government led by Dr Farooq Abdullah for failing to protect its citizens.

Singh, who toured some of the worst affected areas of the state like Doda, Rajouri, Poonch and Udhampur recently, said that there was no administration in the state.

"I demand the governor's intervention under Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and request him to dismiss the government and form an all-party government under his control," Singh told reporters at a press conference in New Delhi.

He also called for a review of the declaration of the so-called cease-fire in Jammu and Kashmir which, according to him, was proving detrimental to the security of the borders as well as that of the citizens. "The terrorists continue to infiltrate and kill innocent people," he said.

He demanded a judicial probe by a sitting high court judge into the killing of Sikhs on February 3 at Majhoor Nagar on the outskirts of Srinagar and the killing of Sadar Mohinder Silngh, a bank employee, in police firing.

He urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan's General Pervez Musharraf to allow leaders from both sides of the line of control to meet at a common place -- either in India or in Pakistan - to seek a consensus, on a solution to problems being faced by people of the state.

He also called for a bandh [general shutdown] in Jammu district on February 12, to protest against the misrule of the Abdullah Government.
