Ministers may file revision in Ayodhya case

Counsel for the Union ministers in the Babri Masjid demolition case Saturday said they were planning to file a revision petition as the recent judgement of the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court left them with no option but to stand trial.

Chief standing counsel of the central government Braj Bahadur Saxena told UNI in Lucknow that court has ''set aside'' the state government notification 198 of 1992 transferring the case to the special CBI court.

Therefore, the criminal cases against the eight accused including Union Ministers Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharati stand unchanged, he said.

Even in the ''ordinary'' situation, the case would be taken up at Faizabad, where the FIR was originally registered, Saxena, who represents L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Kalyan Singh at various courts and before the Liberhan Commission, said.

''Significantly, the several senior BJP/VHP leaders including Advani, Joshi and others had not gone to the court in the revision against the framing of the charges, there was no expectation of relief from the court,'' Saxena said. ''Now we are planning to move a revision petition and a final decision in this regard would be taken soon,'' he added.
