Jihad Council rejects ceasefire in Kashmir

The Muttahida (United) Jihad Council, an alliance of Pakistan-based terrorist groups, has rejected India's 'so-called ceasefire' and vowed to continue 'operations' in Jammu & Kashmir.

"There is no shift in our stand regarding the ceasefire. We reject it outright and firmly resolve to continue our operations against Indian troops," Shaikh Jameelur Rehman, MJC secretary general, said after a hectic but indecisive meeting of the alliance in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir capital of Muzaffarabad.

Syed Salahuddin, commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen and chairman of the MJC, chaired the meeting.

The Dawn, a daily published from Lahore, quoted Shaikh Rehman as saying that if India was serious in its ceasefire, it should accept the conditions set by the mujahideen (holy warriors).

The meeting was attended by the heads of all fifteen member outfits of the alliance and three other groups having observer status.

"We mulled over the proposed visit of the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders to Pakistan (in order) to take a unanimous stand on it," he said, but added that no final decision was taken.
