Paramhans unhappy with Kumbh mela preparations

Ramjanambhoomi Nyas Samiti president 'Paramhans' Ramchandra Das has expressed dissatisfaction over the preparations for the Mahakumbh which begins in Allahabad from January 9.

Talking to newspersons at the mela area on Tuesday, the Paramhans said it was unfortunate that despite the arrival of a large number of saints and akhaaras (religious order), preparations were still not complete.

He complained of a lack of essential facilities like drinking water, electricity and transport. ''The biggest problem seems to be of the accommodation of the saints,'' he charged.

Paramhans Das warned that all major akhaaras would boycott the shahi bathing if proper facilities were not provided to them soon.

The Paramhans, who is also president of the Akhil Bharatiya Panch Ramanandeeya Digamber Ani Akhaara, Ayodhya, however, appreciated the polite behaviour of the mela officials.

The Paramhans further said saints and various akhaaras would make their own arrangements, in case the government expresses its inability to provide proper facilities to them.

Meanwhile, the 'Bharat Sadhu Samaj' said it will hold a three-day conference at the Kumbh mela area from January 17.

The saints participating in the conference would try to formulate a comprehensive campaign to protect the values and virtues in public life, preserve the autonomy of religious institutions and prevent government interference in their management, secretary of the samaj, Swami Harinarayanand, said.

He said the meet would also talk about protection of the cow, social and economic development of the poor and spread of moral duties.

Eminent religious leaders and saints are expected to attend the conference.
