Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday formally snapped ties with the Congress in West Bengal saying that her party would go it alone in the state.
"We will go it alone in the state. The Congress has itself said that the alliance is over. We did not," she said.
She charged the state Congress leadership with not being sincere in fighting the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
She alleged that some state Congress leaders wanted to strengthen the Marxists. Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, she said: "We wanted to take along everyone who were eager to fight the CPI (M). But how can we remain with those who are not interested in fighting the Marxists?"
She said the Congress had even taken back into its fold dissident party leaders who had contested against official Trinamool candidates in the May assembly polls.
