Tamil film star R Saratkumar will be the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's nominee for the July 23 biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu, party president M Karunanidhi said in Madras on Tuesday.
Saratkumar, who unsuccessfully contested the 1998 Lok Sabha election from Tirunelveli as the DMK candidate, campaigned extensively for the party in the May 10 election to the state assembly.
He is secretary of the South Indian Artistes Association, an organisation of film actors.
V P Duraisamy of the DMK is one of the six retiring members of the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi said in a statement.
The AIADMK had announced its candidates for the election on Monday, leaving one seat to its ally, the Tamil Maanila Congress.
